After the heavily celebrated festival, Diwali comes to this wonderful celebration of the bond between a brother and a sister called Bhai Dooj/ Bhau Beej or Bhai Phonta.

Bhai Dooj,  is a Indian festival celebrated on the second lunar day of Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) in the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendar or of Shalivahan Shaka calendar month of Kartika

This festival marks the love and affection of siblings where the sisters put a ‘tilak’ or a vermillion mark on their brothers’ forehead and perform aarti with the lit thali which is a mark of love and protection from all the evil forces

A brother-sister relationship is quite a unique relationship because they may be willing to sacrifice their lives for each other but would never share their food! That’s how strange it is.

On this day, sisters shower their brothers with generous blessings and gifts and their brothers swear to protect them from harm.
