According to a legend, on this very day, Lord Krishna had returned home after slaying the demon Narakasura. He goes to his loving sister Subhadra, who welcomes him home with the holy Diya, fragrant flowers, and sweet, and puts the holy vermillion mark on her brother’s forehead; thus, the festival was born.
